The heavy rains due to the strong system active in Madhya Pradesh for the last several days stopped on Sunday. No heavy rainfall was recorded in any district of the state.
Although rivers and streams remained in spate in some areas, the risk of flood-like situation has now reduced. The Meteorological Department says that similar weather is expected on Monday as well and no heavy rain alert has been issued anywhere.
Reason for stopping of rain
According to the scientist of the Meteorological Department, light showers occurred in only a few selected districts of the state on Sunday. At present, no major system is active, due to which the period of heavy rain has stopped. However, a low-pressure area is forming over North Gujarat and South-West Rajasthan, which will move further in the next 48 hours. As soon as this system moves towards Madhya Pradesh, a new phase of rain may begin. Accordingly, heavy rains can be seen again in the eastern parts of the state from Tuesday.
Status of monsoon activity
Scientists say that along with the monsoon, two other trough lines are also active in the state, but their intensity is not high. This is the reason why the speed of rain has slowed down at present. As soon as the new system becomes stronger, the speed of rain will increase again. Thus it is clear that the current relief is temporary and heavy rains may return soon.
Rainfall data so far
According to the records of the Meteorological Department, an average of 41.2 inches of water has fallen in the state so far in this monsoon season, whereas normally only 33.1 inches of rain should have fallen during this period. That is, about 8.1 inches more rain has fallen than the average. Generally, the average rainfall of the entire season in Madhya Pradesh is considered to be 37 inches, which was crossed this time only last week. So far, 4.2 inches of additional water has fallen.
District wise status
This season’s normal rainfall quota has been completed in 30 districts of the state. These include Bhopal, Rajgarh, Raisen, Vidisha, Alirajpur, Barwani, Katni, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Mandla, Gwalior, Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Datia, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Agar-Malwa, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Singrauli, Sidhi, Satna and Umaria. In many of these districts, the rainfall figure has reached more than one and a half times the average.
Record breaking rain in Sheopur
So far this season, Sheopur district has received almost two and a half times more rainfall than the average. The total rainfall here has reached 213 percent, which is much higher than the normal figures. Similarly, the level of rainfall in other districts is also above normal. It is clear from this that this time the monsoon has brought record-breaking rainfall in many parts of the state.
