Srinagar, State Bureau. Kashmir to be formed: Radical leader Saeed Ali Shah Geelani, who has always justified terrorist violence in Pakistan and Kashmir, has finally announced to completely separate himself from All Party Hurriyat Conference. He is no longer part of the Hurriyat. After five August 2019, this is the biggest development in the politics of separatist camp in the midst of constantly changing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Veteran Gilani, who is currently suffering from various diseases including respiratory, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, has issued an audio message today. Apart from this, he has also issued a letter to all the constituents of the fundamentalist faction of Hurriyat Conference divided into two groups. In his audio message, he has said that in the current situation, I resign from the All Party Hurriyat Conference. I have also conveyed my decision to all the Hurriyat constituents and Majlis A Shura.

You are aware that All Party Hurriyat Conference is a platform of all the big separatist organizations operating in Kashmir. It was formed in the 1990s with the intention of jointly providing a political platform to the ongoing terrorist violence and separatist politics in Kashmir. All the local non-ethnic organizations operating in Kashmir in the early 1990s were directly or indirectly associated with some separatist organization.

It was formed on March 9, 1993 by 26 separatist organizations and Mirwaiz Maulvi Umar Farooq was made its first chairman. A six-member executive committee was also formed at Hurriyat Conference. The decision of this committee is believed to be final. The radical  Saeed Ali Shah Geelani, along with other separatist leaders, formed a new faction of Hurriyat with his supporters on 7 August 2004 due to policy differences. With this, the Hurriyat got divided into two groups. The Gilani-led Hurriyat has been called a radical faction and the Mirwaiz Maulvi Omar Farooq-led faction.

According to Hurriyat watchers, protests against the fundamentalist Saeed Ali Shah Geelani within the Hurriyat Conference had been steadily increasing for the past few years. Apart from this, he was proving unable to give any new twist to the separatist politics in Kashmir from the year 2017. He was not able to take any major decision. During the last one year, he had almost remained silent. With this, the unit of Ghur Kashmir-based Hurriyat Conference was taking all major decisions at its own level. Hurriyat leaders active in Jammu and Kashmir were also constantly questioning Gilani’s leadership and keeping a distance from him. Seeing the tone of rebellion in Hurriyat, Geelani decided to part with it.
