Indian Railways: When you make a reservation or take a ticket for travel by train, then a 10 digit PNR number is printed on that ticket. This is not just a number, but this number has many uses. PNR is a unique number
PNR number is a 10-digit unique number that is issued to every booked reservation ticket. It contains the itinerary of the passenger or the group accompanying the passenger.
PNR tells this status
The status of the ticket is known from the PNR number. That is, the PNR number shows the current status of the booked train ticket like Confirm, Waiting List or RAC.
How PNR works
The Center of Railway Information Systems (CSIR) runs a database. In this all the information of the passengers is fed and stored. The system generates a 10-digit PNR status number every time a person buys a ticket for Indian Railways on IRCTC website, private travel websites or ticket counters.
Passenger limit in one PNR number
Only a maximum of six passengers can join a PNR number. That is, with the idea of group booking, you can make a maximum reservation of six people at a time.
All these are included in PNR
In the PNR number, information about the name, age, sex, berth preference, train number, date, boarding station, class, quota etc. of the passengers are stored.
