Delhi is basically living inside a cloud of gray soup right now. The IMD just upgraded the warning to a red alert, and the city is feeling it. Visibility at Palam and Safdarjung hit a flat zero meters early this morning.
The thing is, it’s not just “fog.” It’s that heavy, toxic smog—smog—that sticks to everything. What draws people to the airport screens today is just a sea of red text. Or nothing.

The Travel Chaos
If you’re trying to fly or catch a train, good luck. The delays are cascading.
-
At the Airport (IGI): Over 150 flights (79 departures and 73 arrivals) have been cancelled as of midday. Another 230 are sitting in delay status. They’ve activated CAT III, which is the high-tech landing system for zero visibility, but even that has its limits.
-
On the Tracks: At least 25 trains heading into Delhi are running late. We’re talking delays from 30 minutes to a massive 7 hours. The Rajdhanis and the Humsafar Express are among the hardest hit.
-
On the Roads: The IMD is warning of “power line tripping” and difficult driving. It’s an ongoing nightmare for commuters on the DND and NH-24.

The Air is “Severe”
The breathing situation is getting worse. The city’s average AQI is hovering around 387, but that’s the polite average.
| Location | AQI Status | Reading |
| Anand Vihar | Severe | 437 |
| Vivek Vihar | Severe | 436 |
| Palam | Severe | 447 |
| ITO | Severe | 409 |
And here’s the kicker: under GRAP Stage-IV, there’s now a ban on non-BS-VI private vehicles entering from outside Delhi. The city is essentially locking down to keep the air from hitting that 500-mark. Let’s be real, it’s not working yet.
The temperature is hovering around 9°C, which feels much colder because of the 100% humidity. It’s that damp, bone-chilling cold that doesn’t let go. Those too.
