CBSE Board Exam 2026: CBSE Board has implemented a new rule for the students appearing for 10th and 12th exams in the current session 2025-26. According to this, 75% attendance of board exam students is mandatory. Internal assessment and mark sheet will not be given if the attendance is less.

CBSE Board Exam 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued some important instructions for students appearing for the 10th and 12th board exams in the academic session 2025-26. According to this, 75% attendance in school will be mandatory for the candidates appearing for the board exams. If this is not done, neither will the students undergo internal assessment nor will their mark sheets be issued. This rule is especially for those students who are completely dependent on coaching. The board has taken this step in view of complaints of low attendance in schools.

Apart from this, it will be the responsibility of the schools to complete the internal assessment of the students on time. Also, schools will no longer be able to teach any new subject in school without the permission of CBSE. This notice with new guidelines was issued by CBSE on Monday. Board officials say that this change will promote discipline and a culture of in-depth subject study among students. This step of CBSE is considered important in the direction of better resource management in schools and ensuring equal opportunities for students.

Two years course will have to be completed

According to the board, grades 9–10 and 11–12 will be two-year academic programs, requiring students to study selected subjects for two consecutive years. Grade 10 students can choose a maximum of two additional subjects in addition to the five compulsory subjects. Grade 12 students can choose only one additional subject. As per the rules, students can choose only those subjects for which the school has teachers, laboratories, and other facilities.

The same rule applies to internal assessment as well.

It will also be necessary to complete internal assessment for two years. Under the New Education Policy (NEP-2020), internal assessment in all subjects is done for two years. If students do not come to school, their internal assessment will not be possible and the result will not be released.

Compartment exam rules

CBSE has also announced rules for “compartment” or “essential repeat.” According to these rules, if a student falls into the compartment category in an additional subject, they will be able to reappear as a private candidate. However, students who do not follow these rules will not be allowed to choose additional subjects as private candidates in the board exams.
