Germany Permanent Residency: The fee for applying for permanent residence in Germany is now less than Rs 11,500, making it even easier for Indians. Skilled workers, EU Blue Card holders and highly qualified professionals can get quick permanent residency under this scheme.
Germany has made permanent residency easier for all foreign nationals, including Indians. The German Settlement Permit, also known as Permanent Residency, allows you and your family to live and work there without any time limit. Whether you are an employee or self-employed, this permit is a secure way to settle permanently in Germany.
According to Germany’s Residence Act, a skilled worker is anyone who holds a German or recognized foreign educational qualification, or equivalent vocational training. EU Blue Card holders and international researchers are also included in this category.
Applicants for permanent residence must have a valid residence permit for a minimum of three years and have contributed to a pension for at least 36 months. In addition, the applicant must have knowledge of the German language at B1 level and a basic understanding of German law, society and lifestyle, which must be proved by a ‘Living in Germany’ test. Also, adequate housing facilities are a must.
The process can also be faster in some cases, such as for EU Blue Card holders, graduates of German universities, highly qualified professionals, and volunteer businessmen. For example, EU Blue Card holders can get the status in 21 to 27 months, and German graduates become eligible in two years. The application fee ranges from 113 euros to 147 euros, which roughly translates to Rs 11,666 to Rs 15,176. This fee is for application processing, apart from translation, language tests, and health insurance options.
Volunteer business people can apply after successfully running a business in Germany for three years, demonstrating that the business is financially secure and has the potential to grow. In addition, spouses of skilled workers can also apply for the status independently if their spouses already hold a permanent residence permit, have been in residence for three years, and are working at least 20 hours per week.
This permanent residence permit gives the opportunity to stay in Germany for a long time, work, avail education and health facilities. Also, it makes family reunification easier.
