The United Forum of Officers and Employees of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has written a letter to Governor Shaktikanta Das demanding an immediate solution to the wage settlement issue under the 7th pay commission. The Forum is an umbrella body of the RBI Employees Unions.

“All the employees of RBI across the country are eagerly waiting for the finalization of the revision process, which will brighten up their festive days. In a letter written by the United Forum of Officers and Employees of Reserve Bank of India to Governor Shaktikanta Das, it has been said that the salary should be paid at the earliest.

A senior RBI official, on the condition of anonymity, said that if the RBI management does not resolve the issue of salary payment by Diwali, then all RBI employees may go for agitation. You are aware that the revision in salaries etc. of all cadres of RBI employees is due from November 2017 and is still pending, the letter said. The pandemic had caused unusual delays. Although, with your consent, the conversation started at a brisk pace and was close to final, but has now come to a sudden halt for some unexplained reason.

The move by the United Forum follows a letter written by the All India Reserve Bank Employees’ Union (AIRBIE) to Governor Shaktikanta Das to intervene in the salary settlement issue of central bank employees. Earlier on October 11, on the issue of pay revision, the issue of salary settlement among RBI employees was reported.

The salary of RBI employees is decided through bilateral agreement once in five years through negotiations between the management and employee unions. The current round of wage revision is pending since November 2017. RBI has separate unions for lower level employees (mainly class 3 and 4 employees) and officers. The officers union may soon write to the governor seeking immediate resolution of the wage issue following similar letters from other unions.

The employee said that all the employees of RBI are very upset with the delay in the issue of salary payment. If there is no solution by Diwali then we are planning to agitate. The wage settlement applies to all central bank employees, although executives typically receive slightly higher revisions than lower-level employees. The Indian central bank has around 12,500-13,000 employees.
