Work Visa Rules: The minimum salary limit for UK work visa has been increased to 38,700 pounds, which is about 50% more than the earlier limit of 26,200 pounds.
Work Visa Rules: A large number of people from all over the world come to the United Kingdom (UK) in search of work. These include a significant number of Indians. However, there has been a significant decline in migration to Britain, which fell by 50% to 8,60,000 in 2023.
In fact, the Conservative Party led by Rishi Sunak had tightened the rules related to visa criteria and dependents. According to Bloomberg, the number of dependents who came to Britain with students fell by 81%, while the number of dependents who came with workers fell by 35%.
The way ahead is even more difficult: It may be even more difficult for new applicants to get a working visa. In fact, the ruling Labor Party is trying to take voters away from the rival Reform Party led by immigration supporter Nigel Farage. However, if you are a PhD holder or have won prestigious international awards in any field from art and architecture to fashion and digital technology, then it may be easier for you to get a UK work visa. Because you will be considered either a person of high potential or a global talent.
Increase in salary limit: The minimum salary limit for UK work visas has been increased to 38,700 pounds, which is about 50% more than the earlier limit of 26,200 pounds. According to the BBC, this limit does not apply to health and social care workers and teachers on the National Pay Scales. However, new applications for visas introduced specifically for social care workers during the pandemic will not be accepted from June.
Skilled Work Visa: Visa applicants will need 70 points to obtain a Skilled Work Visa. This will be applicable for 5 years. After this it can be extended. You will get 50 points if you have a job offer and the ability to speak English.
Points increase with education and salary level. During this, if the job is in a sector where there is a shortage of workers, the points also increase. To apply for a skilled work visa, foreign workers must have at least a degree level qualification. This high limit will not apply to those who are already in Britain and are renewing their visa.
Will have to wait to get citizenship: To get approval to stay in the UK forever (Indefinite Leave to Remain), now you will have to wait for 10 years instead of 5 years. According to some reports, this new rule may apply not only to new visa applicants, but also to those who are already living in the UK.
Language test will be difficult: Graduates who have completed their studies get 18 months to find a job in Britain, which was earlier 2 years. The government is also considering imposing a 6% tax on tuition fee income from international students. Language tests will become tougher for those seeking working visas. Apart from this, adult dependents of visa holders will also have to have some understanding of English to gain entry into the UK. The new income limit does not apply to the renewal of existing family visas.
