Video: Tourist drives Mahindra Thar SUV through river in Himachal to avoid traffic jam

Due to the crowd of tourists on the mountain, there was heavy traffic jam at many places on the Lahaul to Manali route. Then, to get rid of the jam, a tourist jumped his Mahindra Thar into Chandra river and was successful in crossing it. Many videos have surfaced on social media in which long queues of vehicles are seen on the roads.


Mahindra Thar In Chandra River Himachal: The video of Mahindra Thar SUV driving in Chandra River in Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh is going viral on social media. Police has issued a challan on the video of the incident. It is known that people are reaching hill stations in large numbers to celebrate Christmas and New Year holidays, due to which there are queues of vehicles on the roads. According to the information received, in the last three days, about 55,000 vehicles have passed the Atal Tunnel in Rohtang.

District SP Mayank Chaudhary said on the viral video, “Recently, a video went viral in which a Thar is crossing Chandra river in district Lahaul Spiti. The said vehicle has been driven under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the district police has deployed police personnel at the said place to ensure that no one commits such a crime in future.

Shimla Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu has appealed to the tourists to give priority to safe travel and follow traffic rules. Officials said more than 1 lakh vehicles are expected to enter Shimla this week for the New Year celebrations. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has said that the state is “managing the situation well.”
