Pensioners Alert! A pensioner of Rajasthan government said that pension has not come in his account since June 2023. On finding out the reason for this, he was told that the reason for non-payment of pension was non-submission of life certificate.

Crores of people in the country get pension from the central or state government. At present there are about 69.76 lakh pensioners of the Central Government. Whereas so many pensioners are from the state government and other institutions. To ensure that your pension continues to come, pensioners have to submit their life certificates to banks every year. If you do not do this, your pension may be stopped. The government is continuously making efforts so that pensioners do not have to come to banks every year to submit their life certificates. For this, the government has provided facilities to pensioners like door-step banking, post payment bank, face authentication, video call, through which they can deposit their life certificate in the bank.

Crores of pensioners of the country have to submit their life certificates in banks every year in the month of November. Pensioners above 80 years of age can submit their life certificates from October 1. There is a need to submit the life certificate so that the pensioners can be confirmed to be alive. Many such cases keep coming to light, in which it is revealed that the person taking pension is not alive but pension is being taken in his name. Therefore, in the last few years, pension giving institutions have increased their monitoring on this.

Pension has not come for four months

A pensioner of Rajasthan government said that pension has not come in his account since June 2023. On finding out the reason for this, he was told that the reason for non-payment of pension was non-submission of life certificate. The pensioner told that he gets pension from Rajasthan government but the district treasury of the state government sends this pension to the SBI account near his house in Uttarakhand.

Life certificate was deposited in the bank

The pensioner told that he had submitted his life certificate in a branch of State Bank of India (SBI) in November last year, which was accepted. Therefore he was sure about the life certificate but still the pension was stopped. Actually, pensioners can submit their life certificate in any branch of the bank where their pension comes but why did this not happen in this case. We gathered information about this. We contacted the Rajasthan Government’s Directorate of Pensioners Welfare Department and Bikaner, a regional office of the Pensioners’ Welfare Department, Jaipur, available on the Integrated Financial Pension Management System website of the Government of Rajasthan. Bikaner division includes Bikaner, Hanumangarh and Sriganganagar districts.

What did the pension department say?

We got information from the regional office Bikaner that the pensioners had to come and submit their life proof in the district treasury of Rajasthan. On the condition of anonymity, the officer said that earlier the same system was in place here also, the life proof being deposited in the banks was being accepted. Recently, due to some irregularities, changes were made in this and now pensioners will have to come to the district treasury and submit their life certificate. On contacting the treasury, the same information was given that the pension has been stopped due to non-deposit of life certificate in the treasury. Once it is deposited in the treasury, the pension will be restored.

According to the Rajasthan government website, there are a total of 492176 pensioners in the state. However, it is difficult to tell how many pensioners are there due to this change, whose pension is not coming due to non-deposit of life certificate in treasury.
