Meaning of PAN Card Numbers
Let us tell you that PAN card consists of alphanumeric 10 digits. The IT department issues it through UTI or NSDL. It is not random like any mobile number. Rather, an information is hidden behind each of its alphabet or numeric. The first 5 digits of the 10 digits of PAN card are alphabet. There are 4 numerics behind them and then an alphabet at the end.

Beginning 5 Characters Means
Out of the first 5 characters in PAN card, first three characters represent the alphabetical series of Income Tax which fall in the range from AAA to ZZZ. The fourth character shows what you are in the eyes of the Income Tax Department.

Each letter has some meaning
, as for individual taxpayers, the Income Tax Department uses P as the fourth character. C is used for company. H is used for Hindu Undivided Family (HUF). A is used for Association of Persons (AOP). B is used for Body of Individuals (BOI). G is used for government agency. J is used for artificial judicial person. L is used for local authority. F stands for Firm/Limited Liability Partnership. T is used for trust.


The first letter of the name is also there,
the 5th character of the included PAN card represents the first character of your surname. For example, if your surname is Rajput, then the fifth character of your PAN number will be R. Whereas for non-individual PAN card holders, the fifth character in their PAN number will be the first letter of their name. The next four characters are always numeric which are the sequential numbers of the PAN card series and are in between the numbers 0001 to 9999. The last character of your PAN number is always an alphabet.
