Fraud Alert! Permanent Account Number (PAN Card) card has become an important and necessary document for all citizens in the country today. This is especially needed for opening a bank account or issuing voter ID. At the same time, it is also used as an identity proof document along with financial transactions.
Identify with QR code
Those who have been issued a PAN card after July 2018 have got it with an Enhanced Quick Response code. PAN is used for tax assessment. Therefore, after many cases of fraud were registered, QR code was started in it. The QR code of the PAN card identifies the fake and the original PAN. For this, only a smartphone and an app issued by the Income Tax Department are needed.
How to detect fake PAN card
- Go to ‘Play Store’ and download the ‘PAN QR Code Reader’ app.
- Keep in mind that download only the app which shows ‘NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited’ as its developer.
- After downloading, open the app. You will see a green plus graphic on the camera viewfinder.
- Try to capture the QR code on your PAN card from the viewfinder like we take a picture in the camera.
- Make sure that the QR code is clearly visible.
- Once the camera has captured it, you will hear a beep. After this your phone will vibrate with the PAN details.
- All you have to do is to ensure that the card details match with your phone details.
- If these details are available then your PAN card is original.
