Retired Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav jailed in Pakistan has refused to file a review petition. According to the information, Jadhav has decided to proceed on the mercy petition. Pakistan claims that it has offered to give Jadhav another consular access.

Islamabad Pakistan has claimed that retired Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav (Kulbhushan Jadhav), who is lodged in a Pakistani jail on charges of espionage, has refused to file a review petition. According to the information, Jadhav has decided to proceed on the mercy petition. Pakistan claims that it has offered to give Jadhav another counselor access. However, no statement has come from the family of Kulbhushan Jadhav in this case. Earlier, Jadhav got relief from the International Court of Justice.

Pakistan has sent a proposal for giving counselor access to India for the second time in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case and permission has been given to Jadhav’s father and his wife. According to Pakistani sources, Jadhav was asked by Pakistan to file a review petition on June 17, but Jadhav refused. Pakistani officials say that they have given written information in this regard to the Indian High Commission. Pakistan has offered another consular access. In November last year, Pakistan had denied any agreement in Jadhav’s case. On behalf of Pakistan, it was said that any action will be taken according to the Constitution to implement the decision of ICJ.

Jadhav was awarded victory in the ICJ by a Pakistani military court in April 2017, sentenced to death on charges of espionage and terrorism. Later, India reached the ICJ, the International Court of Justice, against Pakistan, denying diplomatic access to Jadhav and challenging the death penalty, where a decision was taken in its favor. The ICJ ordered Pakistan to review Jadhav’s sentence and give him consular access at the earliest. Since then, India has been in touch with Pakistan in trying to implement this order.

Rejecting Pakistan’s objection to India’s acceptance of the application in this case, the ICJ said in its 42-page order that continued adjournment on the execution of the death sentence creates the inevitable condition of reviewing Jadhav’s penalty. The punishment given to Jadhav has caused tension in both neighboring countries. However, the ICJ rejected many of India’s demands, including the cancellation, the release of the military court’s decision.
