Income tax payers will now be able to get complaint status related to faceless tax assessment, penalty and appeal through e-mail also. For this, the Income Tax Department has started the facility of three fully dedicated email IDs.

The Income Tax Department said that its objective is to make the services better and transparent for the taxpayers as per the Tax Charter. The department tweeted through its official Twitter handle that with a view to further improve taxpayer services in line with the Taxpayers’ Charter, the Income Tax Department has launched a dedicated e-scheme under the Faceless Scheme for lodging complaints in respect of pending cases. Mail ID has been created.

The department said that taxpayers will be able to easily register complaints through e-mail IDs. Under the faceless assessment system, the taxpayer does not need to visit the department’s office or meet any officer of the department for income tax related works. A central electronic-based system will do all this. With the issuance of e-mail address, the facilities of the taxpayer will increase as compared to earlier as they will be able to get their tax complaint redressed soon.

What are the three e-mail addresses

  1. samadhan.faceless.assessment@incometax.gov.in
  2. samadhan.faceless.penalty@incometax.gov.in
  3. samadhan.faceless.appeal@incometax.gov.in

Late fee problem solved

Taxpayers can now file Income Tax Return (ITR) on the new portal. Income Tax Department has updated its portal. Now the problem of late fee on this is over. A CA pointed out that since the notification of extension of deadline was not recorded on the e-filing portal, it started charging late fee under section 234F from taxpayers who were filing ITR after July 31. Now the department has updated its portal, as a result of which the portal is not charging late fee. This year the deadline for filing income tax has been extended from July 31 to September 30 due to the Corona pandemic.

21.32 lakh taxpayers got refund

CBDT has issued income tax refunds of Rs 45,896 crore to over 21.32 lakh taxpayers between 1 April 2021 and 02 August 2021. Refunds worth Rs 13,694 crore have been issued by the Income Tax Department in 20,12,802 cases. At the same time, Rs 32,203 crore has been released as corporate tax refund in 1,19,173 cases.

Increased use of technology

The Income Tax Department is rapidly increasing the use of technology in its services to provide better service to the taxpayers. This has facilitated from refund to return filing. It is worth noting that on August 13 last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Honoring the Honest’ platform. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that many improvements have been made in this platform which include faceless assessment, faceless appeal and taxpayers charter. The Faceless Assessment and Taxpayers Charter was launched on the same day but the faceless appeal system was implemented across the country on September 25, 2020.

Faceless assessment benefited

There are many advantages of faceless assessment in income tax related work. With the introduction of this facility, there has been very little contact between the taxpayer and the officials of the tax department. However, these do not include appeals related to International Tax and Black Money Act, apart from cases related to serious frauds, widespread tax evasion, sensitive and search. In such a case the taxpayer can be summoned. Faceless assessment has made tax collection transparent, fast and corruption free. In view of its success, the facility of faceless appeal was launched on 25 September 2020. Under this, the powers of the tax officers were reduced and the powers were given in the hands of the taxpayer. To make tax filing faster, transparent and rigging free, the service of faceless appeal was started.
