Alliance Air, an Air India subsidiary, will fly 40 minutes into the sky on Wednesday for a group of ‘special children’. The company said on Sunday that the flight would be flown by ATR aircraft to Bhubaneswar.
The airline said in a statement that 44 children have been selected by an NGO in Bhubaneswar for this ‘Dream Flight’. Of these 21 are girls, 23 are boys. There will also be 19 escorts with them.
Most of the children are from urban poor areas of Bhubaneswar and some are from Adivasi village Baripada. The special flight is being organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Airport Authority and India and Alliance Air with the Government of Odisha.
Air India Union will demand to bring VRS scheme
Amid the decision to privatize Air India, about a dozen trade unions attached to the airline may demand the VRS scheme in an important meeting to be held with Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in Delhi on Monday. This is the second meeting in a month regarding privatization of airlines.
The government is planning to issue ‘Expression and Interest’ (EOI) to fully sell the loss-making Air India. In the first meeting held on January 2, the minister had clearly stated that the government has no other option but to privatize it to keep the airline alive.
He also appealed the employees to cooperate with the government for this. Airlines sources said the government had initially told the unions that if it was privatized, it would protect employees’ jobs, so employees did not think of voluntary retirement.
The unions say that but recently its members said they wanted to talk about the VRS scheme. He knew that after privatization his job could remain secure for only one year. Therefore, we want to put the proposal of VRS scheme in the meeting on Monday.
