IRCTC Tatkal Train Booking: From July 1, the way to book train tickets in Tatkal will change. Now without Aadhaar and OTP, you will not be able to book train tickets in Tatkal. Indian Railways has made these big changes to give relief to the common people and to make Tatkal ticket booking transparent. These new rules will be implemented from July 1, 2025. These changes will be applicable especially to those who book Tatkal tickets through IRCTC website and mobile app.
Now Aadhaar will be required for Tatkal train ticket
From July 1, Aadhar card has been made mandatory to book Tatkal tickets through IRCTC website and mobile app. This will make the ticket booking process transparent and prevent fake booking.
How will Tatkal train tickets be booked now?
At the same time, from July 15, OTP based mobile number verification will be necessary for Tatkal tickets booked through PRS counters i.e. computerized counters present at railway stations and authorized agents. OTP will come on the mobile number given at the time of booking, without entering which the ticket will not be confirmed. According to the Railway Ministry, these steps have been taken so that the Tatkal scheme is not misused and this facility is available to the truly needy people.
Ban on booking time for agents
Railways has decided to put a 30-minute ban on booking time for authorized agents so that common people can book tickets first.
- AC class Tatkal tickets: Agents will not be able to book tickets from 10 am to 10:30 am.
- Non-AC class tickets: The ban will be applicable from 11 am to 11:30 am.
A large number of Tatkal ticket bookings are done in the first 10-30 minutes. For example, more than 60% of tickets in AC class are sold in the first 10 minutes and 84% of tickets in Non-AC class are sold in the first hour.
Action on fake booking and bots
IRCTC said that strict monitoring is being done on ticket booking through fake and bots. In the last 6 months, 2.5 crore fake user IDs have been closed. More than 20 lakh accounts are still under investigation. Special investigation will be done on the IDs of users who do not do Aadhaar verification. With these new rules, an attempt is being made to make Tatkal ticket booking transparent, safe and easy for the common people. This will curb those who use fake agents and bots and the right train passengers will benefit. If you also book Tatkal tickets, then now it is necessary to keep Aadhaar and mobile number updated.
