Drunk driving will be expensive
According to the new rules, if a person is caught driving under the influence of alcohol, then for the first time itself he can be fined Rs 10,000 or jailed for 6 months. If the same person makes the same mistake again, then the fine can be up to Rs 15,000 and the jail sentence can increase to 2 years.
Now a challan of Rs 5000 for jumping red light
If you break the signal, then now you will have to pay a challan of Rs 5,000, whereas earlier this fine was only Rs 500.
Heavy penalty for speeding and carrying more goods
If a driver drives faster than the prescribed speed, then he will have to pay a fine of up to Rs 5,000. At the same time, if a truck or commercial vehicle carries more goods than the prescribed limit, then a fine of more than Rs 20,000 will be imposed on it.
Driving without a driving license
Now if you are caught driving without a valid driving license, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000. However, if you have a valid DL in DigiLocker or mParivahan app, it will be accepted.
Penalty even for not having pollution certificate
PUC certificate has been made mandatory to control the smoke coming out of the vehicle. If you do not have it, then there can be a fine of Rs 10,000 and 6 months imprisonment. Apart from this, community service can also be ordered.
Challan for not wearing seat belt
Now not only the driver in the car, but all the passengers are required to wear seat belts. A fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed for not wearing a seat belt, whether you are sitting in the front or back.
Penalty for three rides on a bike
If three people are found sitting on a two-wheeler, a fine of Rs 1,000 will have to be paid.
Riding a bike without a helmet will no longer be allowed
Earlier, the fine for not wearing a helmet was Rs 100, which has now been increased to Rs 1,000. Also, the driver’s driving license can also be suspended for 3 months.
Strict punishment for minor driving
If a minor is caught driving a vehicle, his parents can be fined Rs 25,000 and jailed for 3 years. Along with this, the registration of that vehicle will be canceled for 1 year and that minor will not get a driving license before the age of 25.
Strictness on mobile use
Using a mobile phone while driving is now considered an even more severe crime. A challan of up to Rs 5,000 can be issued for this, as it increases the chances of road accidents manifold.
