Penalty is charged under section 155 of the Law Act 1989

Not only this, many people buy general class tickets and climb into sleeper class or buy sleeper class tickets and sit in AC coaches. Let us tell you that it is also a legal offense to travel in a high class coach by buying a low class ticket during train journey.

Under Section 155 of the Railways Act 1989, a fine of up to Rs 500 is charged for illegally entering a compartment with reservation. Indian Railways keeps on making the passengers aware of the rules and laws of the railways on its official website and social media platforms. In this connection, Indian Railways has appealed to the passengers on its official Twitter account to travel in trains only with valid tickets. Railways has said that unauthorizedly entering a reserved compartment is a punishable offence.

Many times, when there is no space, the passengers go to another compartment.

Let us tell you that many times passengers buy lower class tickets and move to higher class coaches because they do not get a place to sit or sleep in the class for which they buy tickets. Apart from this, sometimes some passengers knowingly or unknowingly also take lower class tickets and go to higher class coaches. After which they have to pay a fine if caught.
