North Central Railway successfully tested goods train operation between Kanpur yard and Tundla with the help of device without guard. After this, online training of 200 loco pilots has also been started along with placing orders for making EOTT devices.

The first goods train between Goods Marshaling Kanpur (GMC) yard to Tundla was run without a guard device and this experiment of North Central Railway was successful. Now the Railways has placed an order for making EOTT (End of Train Telemetry) devices for 900 goods trains to Banaras Locomotive Workshop. Online training of 200 loco pilots has been started. According to railway officials, 344 goods trains of North Central Railway Prayagraj division will soon run with this device.

Varanasi Locomotive Workshop and RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organisation) Lucknow were working on the EOTT device for the past one year. After its successful use in goods train on Sunday, North Central Railway has made preparations to use this device in 900 goods trains as soon as possible. Talking about Prayagraj division, there are 344 goods trains which are set to run on the device by the end of August. Amit Kumar Singh, Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway Prayagraj Division said that the test of the device has been successful. Now it will be used in more freight trains.

235 km distance covered in 305 minutes

Goods train departed from GMC to Tundla at 6:15 pm on Sunday without guard. The distance from Kanpur to Tundla is about 235 km. The train completed it in 305 minutes and reached Tundla at 11:20 PM.

The number of guards is half of the requirement

The number of guards in North Central Railway should be two thousand, but at present this number is 1020. In Kanpur zone, this number is 58, which is half the requirement. While the EOTT device will be helpful in dealing with the shortage of guards, it will also prove to be financially beneficial for the Railways.

The device will do all the work of the guard

EOTT is a GPS based device whose two units are connected to each other through a radio transmitter. It also has GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) which transfers data. There is a display in the unit mounted in the engine, in which the loco pilot keeps getting information about the data being sent from the other unit. It is the duty of the guard running in the last compartment of the train to see the departure mark so that when the goods train is parked in the loop line, the passenger train coming from behind can be easily removed on the main line so that the accident does not happen. This work will be done easily through EOTT
