ITR Filing Update: More than 4.5 crore people have filed ITR. 1 crore people are expected to file ITR on the last date. With this, this figure is expected to cross 5.5 crores.

ITR Last Date: The last date for filing Income Tax Return for the financial year 2021-22 (AY 2022-23) is near. According to the latest update given on the website of the Income Tax Department, 4.52 crore people have filed income tax returns. While 3.41 crore returns have been verified. Some users have also complained about the e-filing website not working properly and demanded extension of the last date. However, the department has clearly refused to extend the last date.

The date was extended due to the Covid period,
as well as the Income Tax Department has appealed to file ITR by 31 July to avoid any kind of late fee through social media. On the other hand, Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj has said that there is no idea to extend the date of filing ITR beyond July 31. He said that for the last two years the last date was extended repeatedly due to the situation not being normal and being a Covid period.

Why will the date not increase?
Let us tell you that in the last financial year (2020-21), a total of 5.89 crore ITRs were filed till December 31, 2021 with the extended date. Earlier in the financial year 2019-20 also 5.95 crore people had filed ITR. This time till July 29, this figure has crossed 4.5 crores. In this 3.41 crores returns have also been verified. By the last date, this figure is expected to cross 5.5 crores.

Traffic will increase on the last date!
According to Tarun Bajaj, last year the number of return filers on the last date was more than 50 lakhs. But, this time more than 1 crore taxpayers are expected to file returns on the last date. In such a situation, we have asked our team to be ready. The system is capable of carrying additional load so no consideration has been given to extend the date.

If you have received Form-16 from the office, then fill it without delay. If you file ITR after 31, you will have to pay penalty.
