Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday retaliated against the statement of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on rigging the Pakistan Army Chief Bajwa in elections and setting up a puppet government in Islamabad. Drawing Nawaz Sharif, Imran said that the PML-N supremo came to politics in 1980 during the Morschel Law by polishing the shoes of General Zia ul Haq. Apart from this, he made many more objectionable comments on Nawaz. He said that Sharif is speaking against the army, which army is sacrificing for the nation.

Significantly, 70-year-old Nawaz Sharif, who was the Prime Minister of the country three times, was ousted from power in 2017 by the court. After this, for the first time, he has made a statement directly against the Prime Minister Imran Khan along with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and ISI Chief Lt General Faiz Hameed.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has accused the country’s army and intelligence agency ISI of overthrowing them. Along with this, he said that both of them have formed their ‘puppet’ government by bringing Imran Khan to power. Sharif was addressing the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition of 11 opposition parties in Gujranwala, about 80 km from Lahore.

He addressed the event late Friday night via video link from London. Targeting the military leadership, Sharif said that Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa overthrew my government. He rigged the 2018 elections and imposed Nakabil Imran Khan on the country. General Bajwa is a direct criminal and he has to answer for it. He also accused the ISI of being behind his government’s fall. According to Sharif, the whole episode happened with the help of ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed.

On 20 September, opposition parties announced the formation of PDM and a three-phase anti-government campaign. Under this, public meetings, demonstrations and rallies have started all over the country to remove the Imran Khan government from power. In January 2021, a long march will be held for Islamabad.
