Details of the Incident and Social Media Footprint
According to eyewitness accounts and verified video footage circulating on social media platforms, the event unfolded as follows:
-
The Launch: De Freitas was carried into a horizontal “Superman” launch position by three employees before being brought to the edge of the bridge and released.
-
The Oversight: Onlookers realized mid-flight that the safety cord was still resting on the platform, completely disconnected from her body harness. Witnesses reported hearing onlookers shouting, “The rope, people, the rope,” immediately after the release.
-
The Impact: De Freitas fell approximately 40 meters (around 131 feet) directly into the gorge. Emergency response medical teams from SAMU (Serviço de Atendimento Móvel de Urgência) arrived shortly after but confirmed she had succumbed to the impact at the scene.
Earlier that morning, the victim had shared multiple real-time updates on her personal social media profiles, documenting her arrival at the site, showing her participant identification wristbands, and posing with the operational crew.
Legal Consequences and Arrests
Brazil’s military and civil police forces moved quickly following initial field inspections, detaining six employees present at the platform for immediate interrogation.
-
Formal Arrests: Three male operators—aged 27, 32, and 42—have been formally arrested and placed in custody.
-
The Legal Charge: The state prosecutor’s office has booked the suspects under the charge of homicide with eventual intent (dolo eventual). In Brazilian jurisprudence, this classification is applied when an individual consciously engages in a highly hazardous action while showing total indifference to the foreseeable, fatal risks involved.
The São Paulo Governor’s Office confirmed in a statement that the investigation remains active as forensic teams and safety inspectors reconstruct the sequence of events to establish absolute accountability.
