Heavy monsoon rains in the last three days have caused landslides and floods in five states of Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha and Jharkhand , killing at least 50 people.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD Alert) said that Karnataka will receive heavy rains for the next three days and a yellow alert has been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagalur, Kodagu, Hassan and Kolar districts. Wherein Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, hill states including northeastern states UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, MP, Chhattisgarh have declared heavy rain alert.
At least 36 people have died in Himachal Pradesh due to floods and landslides following heavy rains in the last three days. Meanwhile, fishermen in the coastal districts of the states have been advised not to venture into the sea as winds gusting to 40 to 50 kmph are likely. It has been cloudy and drizzle in many states since morning. Delhi will remain generally cloudy with chances of light rain or drizzle on Tuesday. The maximum temperature of the day is likely to be around 35 degree Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Department, there will be a change in the weather in Odisha and Tamil Nadu including Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal , heavy rains have been predicted. There will be drizzle in Delhi, UP, Punjab and Haryana today. Whereas, apart from Northeast India, there is a possibility of rain in Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland etc. Rains will continue over Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh etc.
Flood-like situation worsened on Tuesday due to incessant rains in Kota, Rajasthan . Schools have been closed in all the four districts of Kota division – Kota, Baran, Jhalawar and Bundi. Many areas in these districts have been waterlogged due to heavy rains and release of water from dams.
IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Chamarajanagar, Tumakuru, Ballari and Chitradurga. Four people died and ten others went missing due to repeated cloudbursts in Uttarakhand. Residents in many states are facing cold in the evening and morning due to heavy rains. Six people have already died in Odisha due to rain and floods.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in some areas of Tamil Nadu and adjoining Puducherry as well as some districts adjoining the Western Ghats from Tuesday. The sky will remain cloudy over Chennai and its adjoining areas, while the southern states are likely to see the temperature in the range of 26-27 degree Celsius for the next two days.
The flood situation in several districts of northern Odisha , including Balasore , turned critical on Monday as rivers inundated low-lying areas, officials said. Due to which people of at least 134 villages were drowned. Delhi remained partly cloudy on Tuesday morning, while the Met Office predicted light rain in the city during the day.
