On behalf of the government, Minister of State for Heavy Industries Krishna Pal Gurjar answered this question. He said that the FAME scheme is being run since 2015 to promote e-vehicles or hybrid vehicles in the country. Under this scheme, a proposal for financial assistance has been made with a budget of Rs 10,000 crore.

Incentive amount increased
Under the scheme, the government aims to provide assistance for 7090 e-buses, 5 lakh e-three wheelers, 55,000 four wheelers passenger cars and 10 lakh two wheelers through subsidy. Along with this, the Union Minister also informed that recently the cost limit under FAME II scheme has been increased from 20 percent to 40 percent. Along with this, the incentive amount has been increased from Rs 10,000 per kW to Rs 15,000 per kW. Due to this, the cost of two-wheeler e-vehicle has become at par with ICE two-wheeler.
Batteries will be made in the country itself
Along with this, in order to reduce the cost of batteries in the country, the Government of India has proposed a scheme for promotion of manufacturing of Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC) from 12 May 2021. He said that due to the fall in battery prices, the cost of e-vehicles will come down. The GST has been reduced from 12 percent to 5 percent by the government. The GST on chargers or charging stations for e-vehicles has also been reduced from 18 per cent to 5 per cent.
How many e-vehicles are there in the country at present?
The Ministry of Road Transport and National Highways has announced that green license plates are being given to battery-operated vehicles. After that they will not need a permit. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, in its notification, has advised the states not to take electric vehicles road tax.
This will help in reducing the initial cost of e-vehicles. He also informed that in the year 2019, there were a total of 1,61,314 e-vehicles in the country. There were 1,19,648 e-vehicles in the year 2020. He said that at present there are a total of 2,80,962 e-vehicles in the country.
