Union Minister Javadekar said that there are many types of minerals below 6000 meters in the sea. These minerals have not been studied. Under this mission, study and survey work will be done about minerals.

There is big news about the sea-based blue economy in our country surrounded by sea from three sides. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the ‘Deep Sea Mission’. This will help in the exploration of marine resources and development of marine technology. A proposal to this effect was approved in the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has given this information.

After the meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told the media that 70 percent of the Earth’s surface is ocean, about which much study has not been done yet. There is a different world under the deep sea. CCEA has approved the ‘Deep Sea Mission’. Now through this, on one hand the blue economy will be strengthened and on the other hand it will help in exploration of marine resources and development of marine technology.

What is Blue Economy?

90% of India’s total trade is done through the sea route. The promotion of the economy through sea routes, new ports and maritime strategic policy is called Blue Economy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it clear that the central government wants to promote blue economy. India is surrounded by sea on three sides. In such a situation, the economic growth of the country can be increased by increasing the focus on blue economy.

How does Blue Economy work?

It first builds on a sea-based business model, while also reducing on a dynamic model of using resources properly and handling marine waste. Environment is a big issue in the world at present, so adopting Blue Economy can prove to be very beneficial from this point of view as well.

Under the blue economy, the focus is on marine products including minerals. Shipping trade goods by sea proves to be much cleaner environmentally than trucks, trains or other means.

Minerals will be studied, surveyed

Union Minister Javadekar said that there are many types of minerals below 6000 meters in the sea. These minerals have not been studied. Under this mission, study and survey work will be done about minerals. Apart from this, studies will also be done about changes in the deep sea, including climate change and rising sea level, he said.

Employment opportunities will be created

The Union Minister said that under the deep-sea mission, biodiversity will also be studied. He said that under this, an advanced marine station would be established to gather information about marine biology. Apart from this, thermal energy will be studied.

Obviously, human resources will be needed for all these types of studies, surveys and other works. And in such a situation employment opportunities will be created in the country. Especially for the youth who have specialization in these subjects, new job avenues will open.

Opportunities will also open for business

Javadekar said that only five countries of the world, America, Russia, France, Japan, China have technology in this regard. Such technology is not yet freely available. In such a situation, this mission will also pave the way for the development of technology. It is expected that many opportunities will also be created for the business of marine resources.
