EPF account nominee: The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is an important savings scheme for employed individuals. The amount deposited in an EPF account is linked to the employee’s future financial security. Therefore, it is crucial that the nominee information in your EPF account is accurate and updated. Many people appoint their parents as nominees when they start a job, but later, due to marriage, the birth of children, or changes in family circumstances, they wish to change the nominee. Fortunately, the EPFO has now made this process completely online. You can change the nominee in your EPF account by following a few simple steps from the comfort of your home. Let’s learn the step-by-step process:

Know the necessary conditions first

  • Before updating your EPF nominee, keep a few important things ready.
  • Your UAN should be active.
  • UAN should be linked to Aadhaar.
  • The mobile number linked to Aadhaar should be active.
  • Your photo and address should be updated in the EPF profile.
  • There should be a scanned copy of the nominee’s photo.
  • The nominee must have an Aadhaar number.
  • The nominee must have a bank account number and IFSC code.
  • You should also have the complete address of the nominee.

How to update EPF nominee

  • First of all login to EPFO member e-seva portal.
  • After this, go to the ‘Manage’ tab and select the ‘e-Nomination’ option.
  • Now click on ‘Enter New Nomination’.
  • Your profile details will appear on the screen. Press the ‘Proceed’ button.
  • After this, in the ‘Family Declaration’ section, if there is a family then select ‘Yes’.
  • Then fill in the details of the new nominee and upload his/her photo.
  • If you want to add more than one nominee, click on ‘Add Now’ and enter the details of all.
  • Now, decide the percentage of nominee’s share and click on ‘Save EPF Nomination’.

Keep in mind that whenever you make a new nomination, the previous nomination automatically expires. Therefore, it’s important to re-enter the details of the people you want to nominate. Who can become a nominee?

According to EPFO rules, spouse, children, and parents are considered family. If a member wishes to nominate a brother or sister, they must select ‘No’ in the ‘Having Family’ section.

Don’t forget to e-sign.

  • The nomination will only be valid if you complete the e-sign process.
