Employees State Insurance Scheme: Free treatment is available in the scheme, know rules and complete information

What is ESIC Scheme: The Union Ministry of Labor runs this scheme for the health benefits of low-income salaried employees. The hospitals under this are run by the state government. The benefit of this scheme is available to the employees working in private companies and factories. To take advantage of free treatment under ESIC, you have to go to ESI dispensary or hospital. After registering in this scheme, you will be given a card. Through this card, free treatment can be done by visiting the hospital or dispensary.





Benefits of ESI Card: Employees covered under this scheme get many benefits. First of all, the insured person and his family members get free treatment. In addition, 91 days of cash is paid for sick leave. Women on maternity leave are paid 100% of the average wage for up to 26 weeks of delivery and up to 6 weeks in case of abortion.

In case of temporary disability, till recovery and in case of permanent disability, the facility of whole life monthly pension is available. Apart from this, dependents get pension, unemployment allowance, free treatment after retirement, up to Rs 7500 if the woman is delivered outside the ESIC hospital. Apart from this, if death occurs during treatment, then 15 thousand rupees are also given as funeral expenses.

The ESIC scheme is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme for workers. For which Employee State Insurance Corporation ESI Act Rules and Regulations have been made. To provide medical assistance to employees as defined by the ESI Act 1948 in the event of health-related generally sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent disability, occupational injury or death due to employment injury, etc.





This scheme is applicable to any factories, road transport, hotels, restaurants, cinema, newspapers, shops, other institutions like educational / medical institutions where 10 or more persons are employed. However, the coverage limit for installations is still 20 in many states.

Who can avail the benefits of ESIC (Employees State Insurance Scheme)?

The number of employees in the organization, company, factories, road transport, hotels, restaurants, cinema, newspapers, shops, educational / medical institutions, etc. you work should be 10 or more, whereas in many states the coverage is required in establishments. The limit is still 20.



Under a scheme by the Government of India, the employee whose salary is up to Rs 21,000 per month (whereas before 2017 was 15000 limit), they have been included in this scheme. (Notification Download Here) This limit of 21,000 is applicable to all Permanent and Contract/Outsouce Workers. Overtime or bonus amount is not included in this limit of 21,000.
