Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana: The central government administers the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). This scheme was first launched in 2010 and was renamed in 2017. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance for nutritious food to pregnant women and lactating mothers, increase their awareness of health services, and encourage positive attitudes toward the girl child.
Under the PMMVY scheme, the government provides ₹5,000 to pregnant women. The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a central government scheme designed to address the health and nutrition needs of pregnant women and lactating mothers.
The amount is received in two installments
Launched in 2017, this scheme aims to promote mothers’ safety during pregnancy, improve their health, and ensure they receive proper nutrition after childbirth . Under this scheme, women are provided financial assistance of up to 5,000 rupees for their first child.
This amount is paid in two installments. The first installment is financial assistance of ₹3,000 after pregnancy registration and at least one check-up before delivery . The second installment of ₹2,000 is paid after the child’s birth.
Total financial assistance of Rs 11000
The scheme benefit (₹6,000) for the second child is available only if the second child is a girl. This amount is given in a lump sum upon the birth of the girl. This means that an eligible woman receives an average total assistance of ₹6,000-11,000.
How to apply
To benefit from the scheme, a woman must be at least 19 years old. The family’s annual income must not exceed ₹8 lakh. Eligible women must submit an application within 270 days of the child’s birth. Eligible beneficiaries can apply online through the official PMMVY portal https://pmmvy.wcd.gov.in or offline at the nearest Anganwadi center or government primary health center. Required documents include an Aadhaar card linked to a bank account, a bank passbook, a ration card or income certificate, and an MCP card.
