In fact, there is going to be a big change due to Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) at Delhi’s most congested metro stations Chandni Chowk,


Indralok and Laxmi Nagar. DMRC has also issued a tender for this. The project aims to reduce congestion near stations by creating lanes for cycles, e-rickshaws and autorickshaws outside metro stations.

Let us tell you that MMI connects metro stations with other means of transport like buses, autos and e-rickshaws. This involves configuring the 300-metre area around metro stations to improve last-mile connectivity. Under this project, new roads, footpaths and parking will be built for various types of vehicles.

MMI functionality has been implemented at 69 metro stations across DMRC’s network. “To provide hassle-free and easy travel to passengers at major metro stations, DMRC has issued a tender for MMI facilities at Chandni Chowk, Indralok and Laxmi Nagar metro stations,” a DMRC official said on Wednesday.

He said the bids can be submitted between September 18 and October 17 and the tender will be opened on October 18. The work on the project will start from the second week of December.

What will be built at Chandni Chowk metro station?

DMRC officials said there were plans to build a two-wheeler stand at Gate 5 of the Chandni Chowk metro station, renovate the existing toilet near Gate 1 and create an e-rickshaw lane with a capacity of 20 there. Chandni Chowk metro station is on the Yellow Line. This station is located in the crowded Chawri Bazaar area of ​​Old Delhi.

Indralok metro station will be rejuvenated

At the same time, it has been decided to make a parking for 100 two-wheelers and 20 autorickshaws at Indralok station. This metro station will also have a car drop-off point with a capacity of five people, a public parking stand for 12 bikes and an e-rickshaw lane with a capacity of five people.

Apart from this, pick-up and drop-off points will also be made for 20 autos and rickshaws. Focus will be on the development of green paths in Indralok. It is an important metro station as it is located at the interchange between the Red and Green lines of the Delhi Metro network.

Work will also be done on Laxminagar metro station

Lakshmi Nagar Metro Station has road connectivity, pick-up and drop-off bays, cycle lane, bike sharing stands, tabletop crossings with a capacity of 2 people and a car/cab pick-up and drop bay with a capacity of 46 people, keeping in mind better traffic reduction and last mile activity.
