Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Parliament on Wednesday that work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project (508 km) is progressing at a fast pace, in which foundation work has been completed in 406 km and track laying work has started on the 127 km long bridge.
The Union minister told the Lok Sabha that other important works of the project that have been completed include pillars in 395 km and girder casting and girder launching in more than 300 km. Work has also begun on the construction of overhead equipment masts to power the engines.
Foundation work completed at 8 stations
Out of total 12 stations, foundation work has been completed at 8 stations (Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati). In Maharashtra section, foundation work is in progress at 3 stations (Thane, Virar, Boisar), excavation work at BKC station is almost complete and casting of base slab has started.
Work on undersea tunnel has started
Work on construction of 16 river bridges has been completed, while work on 5 major river bridges (Narmada, Vishwamitri, Mahi, Tapti and Sabarmati) in Gujarat is in advanced stage and work on 4 river bridges in Maharashtra is in progress. Work on depots (Thane, Surat and Sabarmati) is in full swing. Work on the only tunnel in Gujarat has been completed. Work on the undersea tunnel (about 21 km) has started, while work on the 4 km long tunnel between Ghansoli and Shilphata in Maharashtra has been completed.
78,839 crore rupees have been spent
The Union Minister also informed that a total of 78,839 crore rupees have been spent on this project till June 30, 2025. This project has created employment opportunities for people directly and indirectly associated with the construction. Vaishnav said that the entire land of 1389.5 hectares has been acquired for the bullet train project.
