The central government has now closed the facility of work from us for its employees. Biometric system has been started for them in the office. Now they will have to come to the office and make their attendance.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) has reintroduced the biometric system for office attendance and stopped the work-from-home system for every employee of the Central Government Ministries and Departments. DoPT in an office memorandum issued on February 16, citing an earlier office memorandum dated January 31, 2022, said, “Since the period of suspension of biometric attendance has expired on 15.02. There is a need to register your attendance in the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance Control System (AEBAAS) from 2022.

The new order also states that while registering their presence in AEBAS, all officers, officials will follow preventive measures to prevent the spread of Corona Virus (Covid 19).

During the third phase of this year, soon after the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions had issued instructions to all central ministries and departments to reduce office attendance by 50 per cent

Officers and staff have to ensure strict compliance of COVID-appropriate practices such as frequent hand washing, sanitisation, wearing of face masks, wearing of face covers and practicing social distancing at all times.

Earlier, pregnant women employees and differently-abled employees were exempted from attending offices, while physical attendance of government employees below the level of Under Secretary was limited to 50 per cent and the remaining 50 per cent were working from home. It is directed that those working from home should be available on telephone and other electronic means of communication at all times.
