Giving this information, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself said that veteran BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani will be honored with Bharat Ratna.

History of Bharat Ratna

The then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad established Bharat Ratna on January 2, 1954 in response to a cabinet resolution passed by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The award was initially limited to the fields of art, literature, science and public services, but in 2011 it was expanded to include ‘any field of human endeavour’.

The award was designed by renowned artist and Padma Vibhushan recipient Nandlal Bose. The award is a bronze medal in the shape of a Peepal leaf, with the image of the Sun and the words Bharat Ratna in Devanagari script engraved on the obverse and also bearing the State Emblem of India and the motto Satyamev Jayate.
