Bank Strike: Banks will remain closed due to strike from today to 29th March, only this government bank will remain open

Bank Strike: In protest against the anti-people economic policies and anti-labour policies of the government, the joint forum of central trade unions and independent labor unions of various regions have called for a two-day strike.


New Delhi: Due to the two-day nationwide general strike of trade unions on March 28 and 29, the functioning of banks may also be partially affected. A section of bank employees’ unions have supported the strike on Monday and Tuesday. In protest against the anti-people economic policies and anti-labour policies of the government, the joint forum of central trade unions and independent labor unions of various regions have called for a two-day strike.

These are the main demands of trade unions

Their major demands include abolishing the labor code, stopping any kind of privatization, dismantling the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP), increasing the allocation for wages under MGNREGA and regularizing contract workers.

The India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said, “We have decided to support this call for strike. We are joining this strike to bring attention to the demands of the banking sector.

Unions will raise their voice against privatization of banks

AIBEA general secretary CH Venkatachalam said that the bank union has demanded that the government should stop privatization of public sector banks and strengthen them. Apart from this, our demand is to speed up recovery of bad loans, increase interest on bank deposits, reduce service charges and restore the old pension scheme. State Bank of India (SBI) has said that its services may be affected to some extent due to the strike.
Only this bank will remain open on the day of strike

SBI said that it has made necessary arrangements to ensure normal functioning of all its branches and offices. Punjab National Bank (PNB) has said that AIBEA, Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) have given strike notices on March 28 and 29. Bengaluru-headquartered Canara Bank has also said that normal banking operations may be affected due to the strike.
