Anganwadi Salary Hike: High Court increased the salary to ₹24,800 (worker) and ₹20,300 (assistant)

Anganwadi Workers Salary Increase A good news has come out for Anganwadi workers and assistants. The High Court has given a big gift to the Anganwadi workers and assistants who have been waiting for the minimum salary for a long time. After which now there is a smile on the faces of Anganwadi workers and assistants.

Actually, the Gujarat High Court has increased the minimum monthly salary given to Anganwadi Workers (AWW) and Assistants (AWH) in the state from Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,500 to Rs 24,800 and Rs 20,300 respectively. A division bench of Justice AS Supehia and Justice RT Vachhani directed the Central and State Government to pay minimum monthly salary to Anganwadi workers.

The court said in its direction that Anganwadi workers should be paid a new salary of Rs 24,800 and assistants Rs 20300. Also, the arrears will be paid from April 1, 2025. Anganwadi is a major program of the Center which aims to provide primary care to children up to 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers through a network of Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi workers.

The court also said, “It is difficult for Anganwadi workers and assistants to manage expenses with a meagre amount of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,500 respectively. The irony is that Anganwadi workers and assistants, who cater to the health and education needs of pregnant and lactating mothers, minors, are deprived of living a life with respect and dignity due to lack of proper remuneration.” According to government data shared in the year 2024, Gujarat collectively had about one lakh Anganwadi workers and assistants.
