Indian stock markets will be closed on Wednesday, August 27 on account of Ganesh Chaturthi. There will be no trading or settlement in shares, derivatives and securities lending segments on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The next holiday will be on October 2, 2025 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti/Dussehra.
Market opening hours
On normal days, the stock market is open from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm from Monday to Friday. It also has a pre-open session from 9:00 am to 9:15 am. The market is closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Commodity market conditions
On Wednesday, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed from 9 am to 5 pm, but the evening session will run from 5 pm to 11:55 pm (till 9 pm for some agricultural commodities). At the same time, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will remain closed for the whole day.
Let us tell you that the stock market was falling till Tuesday afternoon. Nifty Mid Cap and Small Cap index were also in red. In the sectoral index, only Auto and FMCG were in green. Indices like Metal, Pharma, PSU Bank, Private Bank, Realty, Health Care, Oil and Gas, Consumer Durables had fallen by more than 1 percent. Nifty 50 was also trading 172 points down at 24795. Sensex was struggling around 81000 after falling more than 500 points.

August 25 (Monday): Banks were closed in Guwahati on account of Tirubhava tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva.
August 27 (Wednesday): Banks closed in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Panaji and Vijayawada on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.
August 28 (Thursday): Banks closed in Bhubaneswar and Panaji on account of Ganesh Chaturthi (second day) and Nuakhai.
August 31 (Sunday): All banks closed due to weekly holiday.
What to do if the bank is closed?
Even if the bank is closed, you can transact through online banking, mobile app or UPI. ATMs will be available to withdraw cash. However, transactions related to negotiable instruments like cheques and promissory notes will be prohibited.
