Along with the DA hike, the government has also ordered to increase the House Rent Allowance (HRA) of Central government employees.

After a long wait, lakhs of Central government employees are now getting 28% Dearness Allowance hike in their basic salary. Along with this, the House Rent Allowance (HRA) of the Central government employees has also increased. The September salary of Central government employees will now come with double bonanza.

Along with the DA hike, the government has also ordered to increase the House Rent Allowance (HRA) of Central government employees. It is to be noted that according to the rules, HRA has been increased because the DA has exceeded 25%. Therefore, the Central government has also decided to increase the HRA to 27%.

On July 7, 2017, the Department of Expenditure had issued an order in which it was said that when DA will exceed 25%, the HRA will also be revised. Since July 1, the Dearness Allowance has increased to 28%, so it is necessary to revise the HRA as well.

According to the government’s order, the HRA is divided into three categories according to the cities – X, Y and Z. After revision, HRA for X category cities will be 27% of basic pay, similarly HRA for Y category cities will be 18% of basic pay while for Z category cities it will be 9% of basic pay.

According to the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix, the minimum basic salary of central government employees is Rs 18,000. On this basic salary of Rs 18,000, Central government employees were getting DA of Rs 3060 till June 2021 at the rate of 17%. Since July 2021, the Central government employees have started getting Rs 5040 every month as per the DA of 28%. It means there is an increment of Rs 1980 in the monthly salary of the employees. Accordingly, the pension of the pensioners will also be decided.
