Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has given a double gift to the state employees in the form of 3 percent increase in dearness allowance and ad-hoc bonus on the occasion of Diwali.

The Chief Minister has approved a three percent increase in the rate of dearness allowance of state employees and dearness relief payable to pensioners on the lines of central government employees. Now 31 percent dearness allowance and dearness relief rate will be payable to state employees and pensioners from July 1, 2021. Earlier, 28 percent dearness allowance was being given to state employees and pensioners.

Gehlot’s decision will benefit 4 lakh 40 thousand pensioners along with about 8 lakh officers-employees receiving salary on the basis of Rajasthan Civil Services (Revised Salary) Rules-2017. Apart from the state employees, this benefit will also be payable to the employees of Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad.

The amount of increased dearness allowance of the employees from July 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021 will be deposited in their General Provident Fund, General Provident Fund- 2004 or General Provident Fund-SAB account. It will be paid in cash from the salary of the month October, 2021.

It is noteworthy that with the announcement of increase in dearness allowance by the central government, the Chief Minister has decided to increase the rate of dearness allowance of state employees by 3 percent. The state government will bear the financial burden of about Rs 1230 crore annually on this increase. Similarly, Gehlot has also approved to give ad-hoc bonus on Diwali to about 6 lakh employees of the state.

This benefit will be available to state employees taking pay of pay-matrix level-12 or grade pay- 4800 and below, except officers of state service (gazetted). This bonus will also be payable to the employees of Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad and work-charged employees. The ad-hoc bonus will be calculated for the year 2020-21 on the basis of maximum emoluments of Rs.7 thousand and a month of 31 days. This bonus will be payable for a period of 30 days. In this way, each employee will get a maximum ad-hoc bonus of Rs.6 thousand 774.

It is noteworthy that last year, 25 percent of the ad-hoc bonus was deposited in cash and 75 percent in the general provisional fund account, while this time 50 percent of the bonus amount would be deposited in cash and the remaining 50 percent in the general provisional fund account. The state government will bear an additional financial burden of Rs 500 crore on this.
