The introductory honeymoon phase is officially over for VinFast in India. As of Friday, January 9, 2026, the Vietnamese EV maker has pulled the plug on its launch offers, leading to a price jump of up to ₹1.3 lakh across its lineup.
The thing is, VinFast actually had a surprisingly decent debut. In December 2025 alone, they moved 375 units, which means they actually outsold established luxury players like BMW (343 units) and Kia (314 units) in the EV space. Or nothing. Let’s be real, staying ahead of those giants while being the “new kid” is a massive statement. Those too.

The “VinFast Price Reset” Log: Field Notes
It’s an ongoing situation where VinFast is trying to settle into its long-term market position just as the competition starts to get fierce.
-
The VF 6 Hike: The compact SUV is now dearer by up to ₹90,000. The base “Earth” trim starts at ₹17.29 lakh. The thing is, you’re still getting that 59.6 kWh battery with a 468 km range, which is solid for the price. And then you have the “Wind” and “Wind Infinity” variants, which saw the full ₹90k bump.
-
The VF 7 Surge: This is where the bigger hit is. The VF 7 “Sky” variant just got a ₹1.3 lakh price hike. Prices now start at ₹21.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The thing is, the VF 7 is the one people are actually talking about because of that 532 km range on the 70.8 kWh pack.
-
The “Wait and See” Factor: While VinFast is hiking prices, Toyota is literally days away from unveiling its Urban Cruiser EV (Jan 19-20), and Maruti is prepping the e Vitara. The thing is, these legacy brands might put a massive dent in VinFast’s early momentum.
-
The “VF 3” Tease: Even with the hikes, the brand is already hinting at the VF 3 launch in February 2026. It’s expected to be their “budget” play, likely under ₹10 lakh to take on the MG Comet and Tata Tiago EV.

And Here’s the Kicker…
VinFast’s sales were actually 6x higher than Tesla’s in late 2025 (291 vs 48 in November). The thing is, Tesla is operating in a totally different price bracket, but for the average Indian buyer looking for a premium electric SUV under ₹30 lakh, VinFast has become a genuine contender.
It’s an ongoing situation with their Thoothukudi plant ramping up production. If they can keep the service network growing—they’ve already got about 25 showrooms—they might actually survive this post-introductory price shock.
