Vande Bharat Sleeper: Final High-Speed Trial at 180 kmph Successful

Indian Railways marked a milestone on New Year’s Eve 2025 by completing the final high-speed trial of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. The indigenously built 16-coach rake reached a top speed of 180 kmph on the Kota–Nagda section, clearing the way for its commercial debut in early 2026.

This sleeper version is set to redefine overnight travel, providing a faster and more luxurious alternative to current Rajdhani Express services.


1. Trial Highlights: The “Water Glass” Test

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw shared a video of the trial, showcasing the train’s stability at peak speed.

  • The Stability Test: A glass filled to the brim with water remained perfectly steady without a single spill while the train moved at 180 kmph.

  • Safety Clearance: The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has officially declared the performance “fully satisfactory” after testing braking, vibration behavior, and oscillation.

2. Launch & Route Details (2026)

With trials concluded, the focus shifts to the official flagging-off ceremony.

  • Coach Configuration: A 16-coach rake featuring 11 AC 3-Tier, 4 AC 2-Tier, and 1 AC First Class coach.

  • Luxury Amenities:

    • Hot Water Showers in AC First Class.

    • Bio-vacuum toilets (aircraft-style) and baby care units.

    • Noise Cancellation: Advanced soundproofing for a silent cabin experience.

    • Safety: Equipped with Kavach (Indigenous Anti-Collision System).
