UP Govt Declares Holiday on October 7: Government Offices and Colleges to Remain Closed

The Uttar Pradesh government has declared a public holiday across the state on October 7, 2025, to mark Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. All government departments, schools, and colleges will be closed on this day.

This holiday was issued in response to a demand from the Valmiki community and as directed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. However, this holiday will not apply to banks and financial institutions, allowing economic activity to continue as normal.

Will banks also remain closed?

The government has clarified that this holiday does not fall under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, so banks will remain open. Valmiki Jayanti commemorates the life and literary contributions of Maharishi Valmiki, who is also considered the author of the Ramayana. Special events and rituals are held on this day to promote social harmony and spirituality.

The law and order situation in UP is improving.

Law and order in Uttar Pradesh has improved significantly. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) reported zero communal riots in Uttar Pradesh in its 2023 report. Thanks to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s zero-tolerance policy, the crime rate in the state is 25% lower than the national average. Crimes like rioting, kidnapping, and robbery have also decreased, making Uttar Pradesh a national example of law and order.

Activism of the police administration

The administration has successfully maintained law and order by implementing additional security measures in sensitive areas. Measures such as flag marches and drone surveillance have improved peace and order in the state. The Yogi government’s strict action is also creating a better environment for investment and business in the state.
