Government in favor of presenting the Budget on February 1st

A senior government official has indicated that the Central Government is in favor of presenting the General Budget on February 1st, even though it falls on a Sunday. This clearly indicates that the government wants to maintain continuity and stability in financial processes. For the past several years, the Budget has been presented on February 1st, and the government appears in no mood to break this tradition.

Preparations to continue with the tradition that has been in place since 2017

It is worth noting that the tradition of presenting the General Budget on February 1st began in 2017. Previously, the Budget was presented in the last week of February. This year, February 1st falls on a Sunday, which also coincides with Guru Ravidas Jayanti. This has led to speculation about whether the government would change the Budget date, but current indications are that the date will remain unchanged.

Economic Survey likely to be presented on January 29th

According to official sources, the Economic Survey is likely to be presented in Parliament on January 29th. Parliament is likely to be adjourned for recess on January 30th and 31st, following which the General Budget will be presented on February 1st.

Budget to be discussed in the first phase of the session

The first phase of the Budget session is expected to last approximately three weeks. This period will include the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, the presentation of the General Budget, discussion on the budgetary proposals, and the introduction of the Finance Bill. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to respond to the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address.

Emphasis on Important Bills in the Second Phase

The second phase of the session is expected to last approximately four weeks. This phase will focus on the passage of key government bills and the discussion of grant demands for various ministries. This phase is considered crucial for legislative work.

The Budget Has Been Presented on a Holiday Before

Although the stock market and government offices are closed on Sundays, this will not be the first time the budget has been presented on a holiday. In February 1999, then-Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha presented the general budget on a Saturday. Therefore, presenting the budget on Sunday would not be unusual for the government.
