Why is Tejas special?
Tejas is a single-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft designed for high-threat aerial operations. It is capable of performing missions such as air defense, maritime reconnaissance, and strike. In February 2021, the Ministry of Defense signed a contract with HAL worth ₹48,000 crore for the purchase of 83 Tejas Mk-1A aircraft. LCA has also signed an agreement with General Electric Company (GE) to supply engines and support packages for a production program of 97 Tejas Mk-1A aircraft.

Multipurpose plane at low price
Tejas is a low-cost aircraft with a simple design. Therefore, it is very attractive to cost-conscious Asian countries. Although HAL does not currently sell to other countries, Singapore, Egypt, Sri Lanka, UAE, Turkmenistan, and Malaysia have expressed interest in purchasing this aircraft.
