The dream of getting up to 150 units of free electricity per month is now becoming a reality in Rajasthan. The state government has launched the “Chief Minister’s Free Electricity Scheme” to promote solar energy, under which ordinary people can generate their own electricity by installing solar panels on their rooftops and enjoy up to 150 units of free electricity.
The portal for this ambitious scheme was recently launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The portal, developed by the state’s discom companies, is fully online for citizens.
The Rajasthan government launched this state-level scheme in the 2025-26 budget, building on the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Free Electricity Scheme. Its aim is not only to provide relief to citizens but also to empower them to participate in energy production .
There was a lot of enthusiasm on the very first day of registration.
As soon as the portal was launched, a lot of enthusiasm was seen among the people. By 7:30 pm on the very first day, 6,864 consumers had given their consent to install solar panels.
These included 3570 consumers of Jaipur Discom, 1975 consumers of Ajmer Discom and 1319 consumers of Jodhpur Discom.
1.1 KW Solar Panel Absolutely Free
Under this scheme, eligible consumers will be provided a 1.1 kW solar plant completely free of charge.
The central government will provide a subsidy of ₹33,000,
while the Rajasthan government’s discom companies will provide an additional ₹17,000.
This means that consumers will receive a system costing a total of ₹50,000 free of charge.
How to apply?
Citizens of the state can check their eligibility for the scheme using their K-number and apply through the BijliMitra portal or the website of the respective discom. Once eligible, consumers can have their solar panels installed from vendors listed on the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar portal.
This scheme will not only allow citizens
to benefit from free electricity, but also become energy providers to the state by generating surplus electricity and feeding it into the grid. This scheme will also play a key role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of making India carbon-free by 2070.
On the occasion of the portal launch, Amit Shah also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore.
These included drinking water projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission, strengthening water distribution systems under the Smart Cities initiative, a boys’ football academy, residential schools, and several schemes related to public health and the energy sector.
Now, don’t just consume electricity, produce it too—and that too for free!
This initiative by the Rajasthan government is rapidly moving the state towards clean energy. If you too want to install solar panels at your home and receive 150 units of free electricity every month, register on the portal immediately.
