New Delhi: New telecom reforms: There is good news for mobile customers. The government has now made it even easier for the customers to get a new mobile connection. Customers can now apply for a new mobile connection online and not only this, now the SIM card will reach their home. For this, customers can verify themselves with Aadhaar or any document stored in DigiLocker.

The Department of Telecom has issued an order for this. DoT’s move is part of the telecom reforms approved by the cabinet on September 15.

KYC will be done in Re 1

According to the rules of the new order issued, users will have to pay just Re 1 for certification through UIDAI’s Aadhaar based e-KYC service for a new mobile connection.

The government amended the law
The government has issued an order for a new One Time Password (OTP) based process to convert prepaid to postpaid. The government had already amended the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885 in July 2019 to reintroduce the Aadhaar-based e-KYC process for issuance of new mobile connections.

Get sim card sitting at home

Now under the new rule, customers can get SIM at their home through UIDAI based verification. DoT has said in its order that the mobile connection will be given to the customers through an app/portal based process, in which customers can apply for mobile connection sitting at home.

Customers will get convenience
At present, customers have to go through the KYC process for a new mobile connection or to convert a mobile connection from prepaid to postpaid. For this, customers have to go to the shop with their identity and address verification documents.

The Telecom Department said that there is a need to promote contactless service for the convenience of customers and ease of doing business during the Corona period.
