SBI Bank Service Closed: This service will be discontinued from December 1, 2025, affecting your banking needs

The country’s largest public sector bank, State Bank of India (SBI), has made an important announcement for crores of customers. Amidst the increasing reliance on digital payment systems, SBI has decided to discontinue its popular mCASH feature.

The bank has issued a clarification stating that after November 30, 2025, the facility to send and claim mCASH will not be available on OnlineSBI and YONO Lite. This means that from December 1, 2025, this service will be discontinued forever. If you used this feature, you may have to see changes in your banking operations in the coming days.

What did mCASH do?

mCASH was a feature that allowed SBI customers to send money to anyone using just a mobile number or email ID, without the need to register a beneficiary. This service was especially useful for those needing urgent or small transfers. The recipient received a secure link and an 8-digit passcode, allowing them to claim the money into any of their bank accounts.

Why is mCASH service being shut down now?

SBI stated on its website that this feature will be discontinued after November 30, 2025, and customers should instead use safer and more advanced payment options like UPI, IMPS, NEFT, and RTGS. The bank’s goal is to make digital transactions safer and faster, and the mCASH system operated on the old digital infrastructure.

How to transfer money now?

Following the discontinuation of mCASH, SBI has advised customers to use BHIM SBI Pay (UPI App), IMPS, and other digital modes. To send money via UPI, follow these steps:

  • Login to BHIM SBI Pay app
  • Select the ‘Pay’ option
  • Choose one of the options from VPA, Account-IFSC or QR Code
  • Fill in the required information
  • Select the debit account and press the tick mark.
  • Enter UPI PIN
  • Complete the payment

What will be the impact on customers?

Those who used mCASH to send money without adding a beneficiary will now have to shift to options like UPI or IMPS. While the new options are safer and faster, the discontinuation of mCASH could cause problems for some.
