On Friday, two gay couples got married in a historic celebration of a mass wedding event organized by the Taiwanese military. The event was organized by the Taiwan Army. 188 couples married in mass in this army wedding festival. The special thing is that Taiwan is the only country in Asia where gay marriage is recognized. Same sex marriage is not illegal here like other countries. This marriage is recognized by law. It is valid in terms of law. A law in this regard was passed in May, 2019. After this law, more than 4000 couples have been married.




Our army is very open minded

Army Lieutenant Chen Ying-Hassan, who was tied up for the wedding, said that we are hoping that LGBT people will stand up bravely in our army. He said that our army is very open minded. Lieutenant Chen Ying said that we hope that all of us will be treated equally in the matter of love. 27-year-old Lieutenant Chen Ying married 26-year-old Li Li Chen. The couple attended the parade at a military base in the northern city of Taoyuan. After this, the ring was exchanged with senior army officers and family members. Yumi Meng, 36, and his wife, Major Wang Yi, got emotional while exchanging rings. His eyes were moist. Meng wore sneakers under his wedding dress, while Wang wore his officer’s uniform.

Three years ago the top court approved the marriage of homosexuals

In 2017, the Supreme Court of Taiwan ruled in favor of homosexual marriage. Prior to this, the current Taiwan law allowed only male and female marriages. This law was challenged in the apex court. Its constitutionality was questioned in court. Hearing the case, the Taiwanese top court deemed same-sex marriage to be legal and lifted its ban. With this decision, Taiwan became the first country in Asia to approve gay marriage. The Supreme Court gave its important verdict amid growing legal action against the LGBT community in the country. The court said in its judgment that the current ban on marriage of people of the same sex is against the constitution. In the year 2019, the Taiwan Parliament gave legal recognition to gay marriage after voting.
