Ration Card Yojana: Wheat and rice will be given free of cost to the PMGKY ration card holders till the month of November in the fourth phase.

Ration Card Yojana: In the midst of the crisis arising out of the Corona epidemic, the central government has implemented the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKY) to provide relief to the ration card holder families. Under this, more than 80 crore beneficiaries are being given 5 kg of additional food grains per person per month in addition to the foodgrains available in the normal quota. According to a government statement, about 600 lakh tonnes or 6 crore food grains were allocated for free distribution under this scheme, out of which states have lifted 83 per cent food grains till September 15.

Let us tell you, in order to overcome the difficulties, the Central Government had announced PMGKAY last year by the poor and needy due to the economic disruptions arising during the time of Kovid-19 epidemic.

Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the central government is giving five kilograms of food grains per person per month free of cost in addition to the normal quota given to more than 80 crore beneficiaries. Initially this additional free benefit under PMGKAY was provided for a period of three months (April-June 2020). However, with the crisis continuing, the program was extended for another five months (July-November 2020).

At the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic, PMGKY was once again resumed for two months (May-June 2021) and further extended for another five months (July-November 2021).

In the fourth phase, grains will be available till November

The Government of India has so far allocated about 600 lakh tonnes of food grains under the PMGKAY scheme in all the four phases. Out of the total allocation made in all the phases under the scheme, 82.76 per cent food grains were lifted till September 15, 2021. The fourth phase will end in November 2021.

Know- which state raised how much food grains

The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar is on top by lifting the highest percentage of food grains during the fourth phase. It has lifted 93 per cent of the allocated food grains under PMGKAY-IV phase, followed by Odisha with 92 per cent. Tripura and Meghalaya are third with 73-73 per cent, while Telangana, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have lifted 71 per cent food grains till September 15.

Explain that under the NFSA, the government provides 5 kg of food grains per person per month at a highly subsidized rate of Rs 1-3 per kg to more than 80 crore people. Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) provides 35 kg per month per family.
