As a G20 host, Indonesia has resisted pressure from leaders of Western countries and Ukraine to withdraw its invitation to Putin from the summit and remove Russia from the grouping over the war in Ukraine. Indonesia said it did not have the authority to do so without the consent of the members.

Indonesia has also invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. But Zelensky has said that if Putin takes part in this conference, he will not participate. Many other world leaders including US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to attend this summit.

At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Indonesia next week to participate in this summit. There India will take over the chairmanship of the powerful grouping G20 from Indonesia, the current president, on December 1. On Tuesday, PM Modi unveiled the logo, theme and website of India’s G-20 through video-conferencing.
