Public Holiday notice: After the excitement of Navratri, there is another piece of good news in Uttar Pradesh. Tuesday, October 7, has been declared a public holiday across the state on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. All schools, colleges, banks and government offices will remain closed on this day.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the formal announcement at Shravasti, and also outlined grand celebrations for the Jayanti. The day, dedicated to Maharishi Valmiki, the great author of the Ramayana, will now be not only of religious significance, but also of relaxation and celebration.

All educational institutions will remain closed under this holiday. Banks and financial institutions will also remain closed. Government offices will remain closed for the entire day, although emergency services will remain operational. Valmiki Jayanti falls on October 7 this year as per the Hindu calendar, due to which the Chief Minister has declared it a state-level holiday.

Speaking in the historical setting of Shravasti, CM Yogi said, “There will be a holiday in the state on October 7 on the birth anniversary of Lord Valmiki. Ramayana will be recited uninterruptedly in every Dev temple.” He recalled Shravasti as the ancient economic capital of India, a holy place for Buddhism and Jainism.

Yogi asserted that the glorious history of this place inspires us, and now we are taking it on the path of modern development. On the birth anniversary, recitation of Shri Ramayana, bhajan-kirtan, cultural programs and special felicitation ceremonies for the Valmiki community will be organized in every district. The Chief Minister appealed that this day should become a symbol of equality and justice like Valmiki’s Ramayana.

During the event, CM Yogi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 54 development projects worth Rs 510 crore in Shravasti. These include roads, bridges, connectivity projects as well as new schools, hospitals and medical units. There are also employment-oriented schemes that will help develop the region as a tourism hub. Yogi said, “The glorious history of Shravasti inspires us. We are taking it to new heights of development.

October 7 is also going to be a holiday in Punjab. In fact, according to the Punjab Government’s holiday calendar for the year 2025, notification no. 06/01/2024-2PP3/677, Tuesday, October 7 is going to be a public holiday on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Ji’s birthday.
