Property Registry Fees: Govt has doubled property registration fee, with the increased rates coming into effect today

The government has dealt a blow to those planning to purchase land and homes. The registration fee charged by the Stamp Department for purchasing a home or land in Uttarakhand has been doubled.

The registration fee has now been increased from 25,000 rupees to 50,000 rupees. Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar issued a notification regarding this. This fee is used for various Stamp Department activities. Following the notification, the Inspector General of Registration issued orders to all districts on Monday evening, implementing the revised rates. It should be noted that the registration fee in Uttarakhand was set in 2015.

Under this, two percent of the property’s valuation was required as registration fee. The maximum limit was 25,000 rupees. Now, the maximum limit has been increased to 50,000 rupees. According to Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, the registration fee has been revised rationally and practically. The lower amount will be two percent of the property’s value or a maximum of 50,000 rupees.

Fees are lower than other states

The increase in registration fee in Uttarakhand will hit the middle class people. But it should also be noted that the registration fee in Uttarakhand is lower than in many states. According to Assistant Inspector General of Registration Atul Kumar Sharma, the registration fee in Uttarakhand is lower than in other states.

In Uttar Pradesh, the registration fee is only one percent, but its maximum limit is not fixed. That is, if a property is worth Rs 10 lakh, then a fee of Rs 10,000 will have to be paid. Whereas, if the property is worth Rs 1 crore, then Rs 1 lakh will have to be paid. This amount will increase according to the value of the property.
